Alternating

Well, as I can't do this as Friends-only, this will mean little to anyone
reading my public journal, but I need it as a note to self. The secret to
establishing the characters and the passage of time is to alternate within
chapters, or actually alternate chapters between the Present and the
Other.

This way I can keep developing them in Present for the parts that need to
be set there, and have the Other interspersed. This solves the problem of
an overlong leadup to presenting the Other. If I wait until the first
"Act Break" there's way too much development of a non-fantastic nature
going on. I want to be able to hook a reader, and, fates willing, a lit
agent/editor etc. earlier in the story than it would otherwise be.
